New Site Groundbreaking and Business Expansion Project

Nova Molecular Technologies, Inc. (Nova), a leading manufacturer of high-purity solvents, broke ground on a new facility in the Pocatalico East Industrial Site in Sumter, South Carolina on August 12th. This expansion is one of Nova’s large-scale growth projects announced in late 2019. Phase one construction is expected to be complete in 2022 with the full project completion expected by
2024.

Founded in 1989 as a Texas Corporation, Nova acquired its current Sumter, SC production facility in July 2014 and formally launched its high-value solvent Recover and Return program in 2017. The program supports customers in meeting their sustainability goals, mitigates compliance and supply
risks, and reduces waste disposal costs. Nova divested its Texas facility in late 2019 and is fully invested in the state of South Carolina today. Since the program’s inception, Nova has successfully diverted over 125 million pounds of solvents from waste streams.

Shown in the rendering below, the new expansion site designated as Racetrack Road (RTR) will substantially increase capabilities that support Nova’s values of safety, integrity, quality, commitment, sustainability, and innovation. The RTR facility will enable Nova to develop the processes and technologies needed to manufacture the highest quality Biopharma/scientific solvents available today and produce new solvents and chemicals to meet the growing needs of Nova’s current and target markets. Furthermore, it will increase capacity for current products and provide significant additional storage to support current and new customer recovery projects into the future.

Designed with a focus on sustainable processes and systems, RTR will be a primary site for recovery of spent solvents for purification to high purity. Future plans include capturing rainwater for use in processing and developing innovative approaches to heat/cold exchange with the objective of significant energy savings.

Finally, RTR will boost Nova’s commitment to the Sumter community by adding at least 25 more high-quality positions and will invest over $20M in this project.
